7 Things to tell them #IfIDieInPoliceCustody

#1. Please tell them I’d never kill myself, especially if I was on my way to start a new job and the only reason I got pulled over was for a routine traffic stop. Please speak up for me when I cannot.
#2. Please tell them, I’m non-violent and I love all people including myself. Which means I’ll speak up for myself but mouthing off is not an offense punishable by death.  Please remind them that I have more to fear from the police than they have to fear from an un-armed Black woman in custody, without the support of a system that won’t even say my name let alone protect me.

#3. #IfIDieInPoliceCustody Please tell them to #SayHerName, and when they use a picture to depict my character tell them to use the one in this post.

#4 #IfIDieInPoliceCustody Please don’t let them say I didn’t deserve it because I’m a mother, or because I’m a graduate student or because I’m a nice person. Please tell them EVERYONE deserves to be treated like a human being and No one should die in police custody after a routine traffic stop.

#5 #IfIDieInPoliceCustody please tell the police to practice the same #nonviolence they espouse to protestors voicing their disgust.  If I die in police custody and you are a Black Woman and you are in rage and are reluctant to express it for fear of being depicted as an angry Black Woman, please remember that I am you.

#6 #IfIDieInPoliceCustody and you say something like #BlackLivesMatter, then you hear someone respond back to you #AllLivesMatter, tell them that when all lives are being threaten by police brutality with little or no consequence then you’ll start saying #AllLivesMatter.

#7 #IfIDieInPoliceCustody and the media tries to distract you with celebrity news, reality TV or a show about the renegade police officer /detective who’s a really good guy, that just happens to shoot people for a living please tell them you’re not falling for the okey doke.
