My Secret Weapon for 2014…. Shhhhh Don’t tell anyone.
Why a calendar is the single most important tool I’ll use this year?
A calendar is the simple foundation upon which I build my planning, strategy and implementation. It is not merely a function of knowing what day of the week or month it is at any given time. It is a matter of co-creating the reality I want ahead of time before the day even gets here. I heard someone say the best way to predict the future is to invent it yourself. There is something magnetic in the power of intention. We have unpredictable elements such as weather, other people and conditions that are truly out of our control. Why not lessen the variables by shaping our future through planning and taking intelligent actions. Just because we cannot control the rain does not mean that we have to get wet. If we kept a spare umbrella in the car during the rainier season. Yes, it’s true we have no control over how others behave. We do however have control over how we react to their behavior. There are things in life that happen in a very predictable cycle and are scheduled down to the minute. For example we have about the same number of days in each year. We have four seasons that arrive in a predictable order, holidays, birthdays and weekends that have the same allotted schedule every single year. All of this in addition to the control that we have over our own functions. We have all that we need to maximize the year ahead. If you plan enough you can make it so that 2014 won’t even know what hit it.
There are three types of people that reveal themselves during this time of year.
- Those who have seized each moment and made things happen.
- Those who simply allowed things to happen.
- And those who look around scratching their heads saying…. “What the heck just happened?”
It’s true, a calendar is no secret, everyone can get one and they are in abundant supply. It is how they are used that gives them their power and designation. Some of us only look at it once a week, if that much. There are some who look at it each day simply to cross off the days. Counting down to some future expectation. When you have a willingness to do what others won’t do now, in the future it puts you in positions that allow you to do things that they can’t do.
Seize the Year! Let me know what do you plan on doing in the first 90 days of 2014?
